Goal : To use traditional arts as a communication methodology among teachers in training, and encourage the incorporation of local culture and art into formal curriculum development.
History and Past Projects:In partnership with the Indian Association for Preschool Educators in Chennai, Devika has lead workshops on body language and effective communication and skills through the performing arts, such as Bharathanatyam, a traditional, classical South Indian dance form. Linking this dance form to mathematics, history, drama, vocabulary, she has been able to share these workshops as teaching tools at local schools. Devika gave a similar workshop in the US at the Golabal educator’s conference.

Looking Ahead: The Aseema Trust plans to expand the network with teachers and students and eventually establish a teacher resource center where rural and urban teachers will be able to exchange ideas for their classrooms.
